Engineer Co-Op
 

Position summary: Provide manufacturing with timely and organized technical, process development and information and the tools to efficiently manufacture product.  Perform the engineering functions for new equipment and processes.

Essential functions:
• Works with engineering supervision to develop plans for activities (design equipment, product flow, time study, quality standards, etc.) associated with the manufacturing process, including, but not limited to: design, simulation and building of tools; process development, technical choice and use of perishables (lube, chemicals, tooling).
• Assists in the launch activity to design, simulate, purchase, develop and document equipment associated with the launch of new equipment or processes.  Processes need to meet estimated metrics and be robust to meet manufacturing goals.
• Learns the manufacturing processes to be able to drive the improvements in cycle time, quality and efficiency.
• Gain proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing to review and understand part print design and intention.
• Supports the various departments goals using tools such as but not limited to: experimental design, process flow, simulations, SPC, problem solving.
• Assists with the implementation of cost reduction ideas or projects, which increase uptime, reduce scrap, and increase throughput to meet manufacturing objectives.
• Helps drive implementation and timely completion of both internal and external Engineering Change Notices as assigned.
• Understand and follow corporate procedures to be able to work within the system to effect change.
• Establish and maintain set-up, operator instructions, inspection criteria, equipment parameters, checklists and training materials for all operations.
• Supports the manufacturing area to identify bottlenecks, reduce inventory and non-value added activity.
• Works with hourly employees.
• Uses computer systems to perform data analysis, provide reports, coordinates corrective action and verifies completion.

Skills and experience: 
• Prefer students working towards a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or other engineering discipline. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word
• Excellent communication skills

Carbide Tip Bands Operator

Position summary:  The Carbide Tip Band Operator is a skilled position with attainable promotion to a larger role in manufacturing.  A large percentage of time will be spent running quality carbide tipped bands.

Purpose: To assist The M. K. Morse Company production team in manufacturing products that meet specifications.

Essential functions - The essential functions of the individual would include those assumed for a manufacturing position and include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Operate 6 CNC grinding machines at the same time to grind bandsaw blades. Achieve desired production rates with quality products.
  • Perform routine quality inspections every 30 minutes.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and actively participate in 6-S initiatives.
  • Load grinding wheels when needed on machines.
  • Accurately report production/scrap in CMS as directed for the job.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and maintain compliance with applicable OSHA and EPA guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and experience:
• Prior manufacturing experience preferred.
• CNC experience preferred.
• Must be computer literate. 

Education Requirements:  High school education or equivalent preferred.

Supervises: None

Works with: All members of manufacturing and supervision.

Physical demands and work environment:  

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Physical demands: Operators are required to lift 25-50 lbs. 20-24 times per 8-hour shift. Twist wire ties onto coils. Push and pull the welder to roll it to the grinders that require a weld. This is approximately 50 lbs and is done about 6 times per shift. Operators must pick up wooden skids that are roughly 15 lbs. 10-12 times per shift. This role requires standing and walking for the entire shift.
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Coil Mill Operator

Position SummaryThe Coil Mill Operator is an entry-level position with attainable promotion to a larger role in manufacturing. A large percentage of time will be spent running the Kesel band mills.


Key Responsibilities

  • Set band material to required specifications
  • Operate and run Kesel band mills
  • Run up to 6 mill machines per shift 
  • Accurately complete setups 
  • Follow PWI’s and SOPs to maintain quality standards
  • Understand and operate manufacturing equipment
  • Perform all required IDR inspections and quality checks
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs)
  • Achieve established production targets
  • Accurately report production and scrap in CMS
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and participate in 6-S initiatives
  • Follow applicable OSHA and EPA guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Skills & Qualifications

Preferred Experience

Band Saw Cutter

Position summary:  The Band Saw Cutter is an entry-level position with attainable promotion to a larger role in manufacturing.  A large percentage of time will be spent accurately cutting band saw material to-length for welding.

Band Saw Welder

Position summary:  The Band Saw Welder is an entry-level position with attainable promotion to a larger role in manufacturing.  A large percentage of time will be spent welding and grinding band saw blades.
