Tech Tip: Choose the right portaband blade tooth size

Articles, Power Tool Accessories

Cutting with the right size tooth reduces friction, vibration, and ripping of the blade teeth and material, and produces the cleanest cut.

Morse has streamlined its portaband lineup to make it faster and easier than ever before to choose the right blade for the job.

The previous Morse portaband offering included seven tooth pitch options across six different sizes. To simplify the blade selection process, we have rationalized the product line to four tooth pitch options. The blade selection chart has been updated and improved to make sure you are selecting the right blade for your application.

To select the correct blade, you must first determine the application you are cutting. For carbon steel, non-ferrous, and general purpose materials, use the left side of the blade selection chart. If cutting stainless steel or other hard-to-cut materials, use the right-hand side.

Next, determine the thickness of your material. For solids, use the width or diameter of the material. For structural applications, measure wall thickness.

Select the correct blade for your cutting needs using the chart recommendation. Now you are ready to go to work with Morse portable band saw blades.

Obsolete blade?
If you were using a tooth pitch that is now obsolete, we can help you find the correct replacement. 24 wavy users can move to the 18 wavy offering. 14 wavy users can use 12/16; and those using 10/14 can switch to either 12/16 or 8/11.
