Make sure you are selecting the proper reciprocating saw blade for your application.
First, you have to identify what material you are cutting. If it is stainless steel, cast iron, or hardened material, we recommend using a carbide tipped recip.
We tried cutting a stainless steel tube with a bimetal blade, and it was unable to complete the cut. Next, we used a carbide tipped recip and the difference is obvious. Carbide teeth are better at handling the temperature; they don’t break down or wear as quickly as bimetal teeth.
Another important selection criteria for the blade is the size and piece you are cutting. You want the blade to be only two to three inches larger than the part. This reduces the vibration and movement in the blade while cutting. If your blade is too long, it can result in the blade flapping around outside the part, which reduces blade life.
